BIG PLANS How to revitalise island of Smokvica?

A SPECIAL PURPOSE ISLAND

The revitalisation of the island of Smokvica and the search for a possible model of conversion for that special purpose island were the main topics of the meeting held on Tuesday in the State Assets Ministry with the representatives of the lessee, the šibenik-Knin County, the municipality of Rogoznica and relevant ministries.

“We analysed the current state, made proposals and tried to find a solution for a possible model of conversion that could be legally applicable to the island of Smokvica, since it is a special purpose island,” State Assets Minister Mario Banozic said.

The island of Smokvica, in the šibenik-Knin County, is still considered a special purpose island, since there are still military properties on it, which are the responsibility of the State Assets Ministry.

The property on the island of Smokvica was used free of charge for more than 20 years by the family of Ivica Todoric, the founder of the Agrokor company. but it was returned to state ownership in 2017 after the crisis in that company. The State Assets Ministry signed a lease in July 2018 with the sole bidder, the company “Zelena Nekretnina” (Green Real Estate), founded in June 2018 by the Hungarian fund Balansz Zartkoru Nyiltvegu Intezmenyi Ingatlan Alap.

The lease of real estate at the island of Smokvica was signed for 30 years, with an annual rent of HRK 6.1 million. That was HRK 1.1 million more than initially requested in the public call.
