Christmas Eve or Badnjak is traditionally part of the advent fast period when we serve meatless food, and one of the more popular Christmas Eve dishes is fish.
Christmas Eve and Christmas Day foods vary from country to country, even from city to city, and in Lika, there’s not much that can compete with a freshly caught trout from the Gacka river.
The Gacka river valley is rich in trout, and the autochthonous brown trout is the most sought after river fish in the area.
We suggest oven-baked trout, but a barbecue is also a very good choice. And for a side dish – in Lika always potato salad.
