Aeroflot CEO Mikhail Poluboyarinov re-elected to IATA Board of Governors

NEWS

Aeroflot (Moscow Exchange ticker: AFLT) CEO Mikhail Poluboyarinov has been re-elected to the Board of Governors of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). Mikhail Poluboyarinov was elected to three-year term of office running through 2024 at the 77th IATA AGM held on 4 October 2021, in Boston, USA.

The Board of Governors is IATA’s governing body responsible for shaping strategy and exercising policies on behalf of the Association. The Board of Governors comprises 31 individuals drawn from the CEOs of the 290 IATA-associated airlines. These represent 82% of total air traffic.

The reelection of Aeroflot’s CEO to the Board of Governors confirms the commitment of Russia’s flagship carrier to the priority of the global sustainable development goals in aviation as well as IATA’s environmental and climate agenda in terms of use of low-carbon technologies and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

Aeroflot has held IATA membership since 1989; the airline has long been represented in the Board of Governors. For 30 years, Aeroflot has been acting as the main promoter of the IATA’s global initiatives in Russia launching IATA projects across different areas of operations. For instance, in September 2021, Aeroflot successfully completed trial of IATA Travel Pass app on the Moscow – London – Moscow flights. Due to IATA Travel Pass pre-flight formalities will be less time-consuming.

IATA was founded in 1945 and is headquartered in Montreal. The Association brings together key carriers to coordinate and advocate industry positions on vital issues such as aviation safety, flight operation, airfare policy and technical maintenance. IATA drafts and issues international standards, and provides professional training and consulting services.
