EPIC WEEK IN CROATIA

The Croatian National Tourist Board has again launched a promotional interactive campaign “Epic Week in Croatia” where participants can create their perfect vacation in Croatia by selecting 7 of 219 fantastic experiences.  “219 experiences” are dived by regions and you can choose from fantastic sports activities, tastings, sightseeing and much more.

In Lika-Senj and Karlovac County there are 19 awesome things to do and we have the full list!

1. SEE PLACES FROM THE LEGENDARY GERMAN CHILDREN’S BOOK

One trip across the Croatian coast and an encounter with the juvenile gang members and their leader, the fourteen-year-old Zora, was enough for the German writer Kurt Kläber to find what he was looking for – inspiration for a work that would become a German children’s literary classic and a symbol of growing up for millions of Germans. A hit series and theater play were created according to the book of adventures of brave and reckless redheaded girl and her friends.

2. TAKE A DEEP LOOK AT ĐULIN PONOR

Ogulin is the only town in Croatia, and among the few in the world, that was built above cave halls. It sounds scary, but people got used to it. One of the city’s biggest attractions is the Đulin ponor, a 40-meter deep abyss located in the very center of Ogulin. According to legend, Đulin ponor was named after a girl Đula, who jumped into the hole because of an unhappy love. Today, the abyss is a tourist attraction and a challenge for numerous alpinists.

4. DESCENT TO A BEAUTIFUL CROATIAN FJORD

There are many beautiful bays on the Adriatic coast, but one of them is rightly considered as the most beautiful one. In fact, it is so beautiful that in 1964 Zavratnica bay was declared “protected landscape”, and since 1981 it has been an integral part of the Velebit Nature Park. Zavratnica looks like a miniature Norwegian fjord and you have to see it! A must.

Step aside, Hans Christian Andersen. The odd-looking mountain Klek near the town Ogulin inspired so many different tales that it’s almost certain you will also write one if you visit it. The most famous one says that the mountain is the petrified giant Klek punished by gods before the dawn of human kind. Since then, witches from all over the world gather at midnight during storms and try to awaken him. Feel free to climb and check it out!
