Malta prepares to welcome back its beloved visitors

ONE OF THE SAFEST COUNTRIES

Like other destinations around the world, the Maltese Islands have suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic throughout the previous months. Nonetheless, the proactive measures taken by Maltese authorities helped keep the situation well under control.

Malta’s exemplary recovery has been credited by the European Commission, the Commonwealth, The World Health Organization, the United Nations World Tourism Organization, and others. Provided that, many influential publications have reported that Malta is one of the safest destinations post COVID-19.

Now that the situation is continuously improving in many parts of the world, Malta is preparing to open its borders and remove travel restrictions, with extra measures taken to ensure tourists’ and citizens’ safety.

Malta International Airport will reopen fully for commercial flights on July 15th, 2020 whilst it will be open to a list of European approved ‘safe’ countries on July 1st. On arrival, travellers will be subjected to a thermal screening and will be asked to fill a self-declaration form requesting information on their travels in the last 30 days. Not to mention, there will be no changes in previous Visa requirements.

Once inside the Maltese islands, public transport will be operating normally, Taxis are sanitised after every trip, and rental vehicles are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after being returned by clients. Ferries and boat trips to Gozo and Comino are also operating normally.

It is also important to mention that wearing a mask or a visor is only required in confined areas where social distancing cannot be practised.

Hotels, restaurants, beaches, shops, activities, attractions, and other crowded establishments are all required to follow specific hygiene protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of their visitors, and their practices are under the inspection of Malta Tourism Authority.

Finally, Malta Tourism Authority encourages its visitors to follow 4 basic principles when visiting the island; maintain social distancing at all times, take care of your personal hygiene, wear a mask or visor where necessary and most importantly, have fun!
