OLIVE GARDENS OF LUN: A place with 80.000 olive trees in Lika-Senj County

A MUST SEE DESTINATION

During your holiday stay in Croatia you definitely must visit the Olive Gardens of Lun on the island of Pag and its 80,000 olive trees spread over 400 hectares of land. Among them you will find an old “lady” who has been here since the time of Jesus Christ.

We are referring to an olive tree that is 2000 years old! If you do not believe it, take a trip to Pag and see for yourself. Measure the diameter of the tree, divide it by two to get the radius, and then convert the result into millimetres. Every millimetre represents a year in the tree’s age.

Olive Gardens of Lun represent a true oasis and one of the most scenic and beautiful corners of the island of Pag. Among the countless olive trees, there are about 1500 wild olive trees – Olea Oleaster – measuring about 5-8 metres in height and about 20 – 80 cm in DBH.

This area of wild olives, which covers 24 hectares of space, is the only one of its kind in the Adriatic Sea region and it has great botanical value. Due to its special characteristics, it was protected and proclaimed a botanical preserve in 1963.
