PLUM STRUDEL Prepare traditional dessert we call “Štrudla”

RECIPE
strudel

Oh, how we love desserts and sweet fruit strudels are often our choice!

Strudel has German roots but here in Lika they are also a part of our tradition for many years.

Strudel is a pastry made from a thin sheet of dough rolled up with filling and baked. Strudels can be sweet or savory, but the sweet apple and plum strudels are the most famous in Lika. The strudels are perfect for hot sunny days because they can last long, if you manage not to eat them the first day.

INGREDIENTS

• 6 plums, stones removed, chopped
• 100g walnuts, chopped
• 100g raisins
• 100g sugar
• 1 teaspoon cinnamon
• 4 pastry sheets
• oil
• 125 ml cream
• Icing sugar

PREPARATION

Wash well the plums, remove the pits and cut in half. You can also sprinkle the plums with sugar.
Preheat oven to 220°C. For the filling mix plums, walnuts, raisins, sugar and cinnamon in a medium bowl. Set aside.
Grease 4 pastry sheets with oil and put them on top of each other. Brush the top layer with oil also.
Place plum mixture along the edge of the pastry sheets, leaving a border on each side. Bend the edges of the sheets, then roll the strudel. Brush with any remaining oil. Place on a baking tray and bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden brown.

Meanwhile, use an electric beater to beat the cream. Dust strudel with icing sugar. Cut into even slices and serve with whipped cream.
