The EU will support solar panel project on Cres-Lošinj archipelago

Solar panel project on Cres-Lošinj archipelago

At the end of July, the Cres-Lošinj archipelago signed an agreement with the Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat, according to which this body of the European Commission will technically assist the project of investing in solar power plants in parking lots.

The Cres-Lošinj archipelago will receive technical assistance for the INSOLCARPARK project, which aims to examine the possibility and economic, environmental and spatial justification of investing in solar power plants in the largest public parking lot on Mali Lošinj.

The agreement was signed on July 22nd by representatives of the Cres-Losinj archipelago with the support of the Island Movement and the Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat, said a statement.

The Clean Energy for EU Islands Secretariat was set up by the European Commission in 2018 and provides support to European islands in project preparation.

Based on the data obtained from the pre-feasibility study, a business model would be developed for the realization of investments in public parking lots, which would ultimately contribute to increasing the total installed capacity of solar power plants on the Cres-Lošinj archipelago, said a statement.

The project would also improve parking services by providing a large number of shaded parking spaces, it added.
