At the first Poreč Ironman 70.3 competition, which took place on October 16, almost 1,000 competitors took part in 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.1 km of running, reports htz.hr.

The best Ironman athletes in the men’s and women’s competition were Paul Loiseaux, who finished the race in 4 hours and 3 minutes, and Veronika Andrlova, who crossed the finish line in 4 hours and 44 minutes.

“The weather was great. It wasn’t too sunny which is great for the race. The sea was calm during the swim, the cycling route was fast and we ran along the sea. Congratulations to the organizers.” – said Paul Loiseaux after the race.

The winner Veronika Andrlova experienced her first Ironman victory in Poreč and said that it was a very good race because she does not like high temperatures.

“We are pleased to have shown that we can hold such a complex race at the highest level. I would like to thank the entire organizational team for their well-reflected work and the large number of volunteers who joined. The atmosphere was fantastic, I thank the local community for the support they gave us. We have even bigger challenges ahead of us next year because we want to raise the bar even higher. We are glad that we gave the competitors an unforgettable experience that they will remember, and we all had a lot of fun.” – said race director Goran Vrus.

The best-placed competitor from Croatia was Bruno Škrinjarić, for whom this was the first Ironman 70.3 competition, although he had already competed in the 70.3 distance. He finished in 7th place with a time of 4 hours and 17 minutes.

“I am satisfied with the race. The swimming was just as it should be, without the wind. Kudos to the organizer for agreeing that we could drive on the closed highway, because it allowed us to drive very fast, and running by the sea was fantastic!” – emphasized Škrinjarić.
