The “Tourism between science and practice” event held in Croatia on the occasion of World Tourism Day

The Institute for Tourism Zagreb and the Croatian Tourist Board (HTZ) held a scientific and professional event to mark World Tourism Day, reports htz.hr.

Also, 70 years of regular publication of the international scientific magazine “Tourism“, which they marked as an important link between science and tourism practice. The “Tourism between science and practice” event gathered about a hundred participants from tourism on the occasion of World Tourism Day, which is celebrated on September 27. This year, with the global theme, under the auspices of the UNWTO, “Let’s Think Tourism”.

This topic, after the pandemic years and after a big drop in tourism in the world, is extremely relevant. Especially sustainable development, which is becoming imperative not only for tourism but also for society and the economy as a whole – was pointed out at the meeting. HTZ Director Kristjan Staničić emphasized that HTZ has been a co-publisher of that scientific journal for years, and will continue to do so.

The director of the Institute for Tourism, Damir Krešić, said that it is the second oldest such magazine both in Europe and in the world and that it is important for the work of the institute, its international cooperation and Croatian tourism.

The editor-in-chief of the magazine, Josip Mikulić, said that this magazine of international character is published in English four times a year. It follows all relevant topics and trends in tourism and other related sectors. It is distributed electronically. He added that it has a lot of readers, which contributes to the trend for science to be as open as possible to a wide range of people, thus popularizing it.

At the accompanying round table, representatives of HTZ, hoteliers, travel agencies and the nautical industry agreed that tourism development requires a scientific basis and various strategies, saying that science should be further brought closer to the profession to improve tourism policies and practices.
