THIS IS BJELOLASICA TODAY A sleeping Giant waiting for a miracle!

JASENAK

“Whose fault is this?” is the first thing that comes in mind when visiting Bjelolasica after a while.

The mighty Bjelolasica was Croatian Olympic Centre and largest skiing centre in Croatia with very bad luck. Located just 27 kilometres from Ogulin and only an hour ride from Zagreb and Rijeka, Bjelolasica was once a very popular destination. After a suspicious fire in 2011 that caused the complex to shut down, it is far from a Giant it once was.

Bjelolasica had 3 ski lifts, the skiing area of 25 hectares, with a total length of 10 km. The capacity of the ski piste is from 2,000 to 2,500 skiers and guest per day, and there was a stop-off restaurant with 100 seats.

Tourist complex was renovated in 1998 and back then had 150 rooms with 450 beds, restaurant, cocktail bar, social facilities, congress hall, sports hall, fitness club and sauna. Indoor sport facilities included a large sports hall, fitness club and sauna.

Outdoor facilities include football playground, running track, multipurpose playground for basketball, volleyball and handball, tennis courts, bowling court, mini-golf court and other smaller courts.

In the immediate vicinity of the village of Bjelolasica were more than 6 km of skiing paths, sledging and snow-boarding, and all paths were connected by a system of cableways with three double chair lifts and three ski lifts.

Because of that Bjelolasica was a popular training place for Croatian athletes.

Today, things are very different and this is what remained from a “once upon a time” Ski Giant  – he is waiting for a miracle.
