Rijeka’s beaches are equipped for the bathing season, and the sea is of excellent quality, it was said on Tuesday at the Rijeka mayor’s college, reports vecernji.hr.
The head of the City Administration Department for Health and Social Welfare, Karla Mušković, reported that the testing samples with 17 measuring points on beaches, which began in mid-May, proved to be all suitable for swimming.
Last summer, most of the samples were of excellent quality, with only a few cases of pollution at Pećine being small in scale and lasting very short.
The City of Rijeka maintains 21 beaches and it is necessary to supplement them with gravel, arrange platforms for people with special needs at the pool on Kantrida, perform maintenance work on facilities, such as sanitary facilities, coastal walls, sunbathing areas, trails and horticulture.
This year, 31 concessions were approved for sports and catering services on the city beaches. At the official start of the bathing season, on June 1, the beaches will be ready and equipped to welcome bathers.
