It doesn’t matter how many times you walk along the winding trails, you’ll be mesmerized by the lakes, which are arranged like pearls in a string, and their changing colors.
Plitvice Lakes is full of color throughout the day. You’ll see a different color every time you come here. The water is a rich shade of emerald green, but it can also be a deep blue, a turquoise or even a soft gray. Not only do the colors vary from lake to lake, but they also change within each lake, delighting each visitor.
The difference in color is largely due to dissolved organic matter concentration, the abundance of various aquatic life, the depth of the lake, the environmental conditions in each lake, the weather, the play of light and shadow, and surface water movement.
As you walk along the wooden pathways that lead to the Upper Lakes surrounded by the forest, you’ll be captivated by the deep emerald green that reflects off the water’s surface.
On the other hand, if you take a walk through the Lower Lakes canyon, you will be treated to a stunning array of surreal colors, ranging from the deep turquoise of the lower lakes to the deep blue of the upper lakes.
In this forested enclave, the mystery of the sixteen lakes is guarded by a symphony of waterfalls that will leave a lasting impression on all who visit.
