Many places in Croatia have a rich heritage of legends and fairytales, but only one them is called “the homeland of fairytales”. Meet Ogulin, a small town located an hour away from Plitvice.
So why should you put it on your bucket list? Well, it is a great place for a one day visit where you can enjoy nature as well as the stories and legends that last for hundreds of years!
Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, one of the most famous Croatian book author was born in Ogulin and used her hometown as an inspiration for magical books. So, once a year, in June, an international festival of Ogulin fairytales (OGFB) is held; as well as various creative workshops and storytelling which draw many visitors.
Also, a special homage to the respected artist is unique “Ivana`s House of Fairy Tales”, that you must visit no matter how old you are!
Climb mountain Klek, explore rivers Dobra and Mrežnica, lakes Sabljaci, Bukovnik and Šmitovo, or unique Đula canyon. Fall in love into amazingly preserved castle Frankopan Kaštel from the 16th century.
