Medvjeđak – a dream hike with a splendid view!

SPECTACULAR!

Plitvice Lakes are one of the most famous and most beautiful Croatian symbols, so how do you feel about going on a hike which offers a unique view at part of this jewel of nature?

The hiking trail over the peeks of Medvjeđak provides an incredible view of Plitvice Lakes and is beloved by hikers. It is a unique mix of natural beauty, beautiful national park, green forest, lakes and waterfalls. A true symphony of natural beauty.

Visitors eager to enrich their tour of Plitvice Lakes with an interesting hiking climb are recommended to try the ascent to the peak of Oštri Medvjeđak, one of the three peaks of the hill Medvjeđak above Plitvice Lakes.

In ancient time, when people from this area were highly respected, partly because of dense and impenetrable forests, and because it was near the frontier between the two worlds, this region was named „The Devil`s Garden“.

The name for this isolated and unknown area in which legends of the Black Queen, lake fairies, severe winters, sturdy highlanders and forest beasts were told, remained in use until the beginning of the 19th century. At the end of the century, the area was discovered and then often visited by the crowned heads.

The first tourist trails leading to Medvjeđak were built back in the 19th century, and today“s markings mostly follow the routes of these ancient trails. The first trail in the area was built in 1894, and it took hikers to the peak of Tupi Medvjeđak.

In 1900, the Royal Forestry Administration built a forest path from the hotel that existed in the area back then to the peak of Oštri Medvjeđak, named Blanka`s path after the wife of the Archduke Leopold Salvator of the House Habsburg – Lorraine.

The trail is harmoniously incorporated into the scenery and it displays great care that has been exercised even then in protecting this area.

Medvjeđak (Bear`s Mountain) a forested mountain slope, 8 kilometres long, that spreads as a north-west extension of Plješivica, nowadays is also one of the most attractive places that offers a panoramic view over a part of Plitvice Lakes and the whole area between Mala Kapela and Lička Plješivica to all nature enthusiasts, mountaineers and visitors.

We Are Just Tiny Creatures First Croatia shot! We hiked the Medvedak trail at Plitvice Lakes National Park. It is covered in a beautiful forest right next to the lakes but nobody really cares about it. We climbed three peaks and returned to the car after about four or five hours. This was one of the most amazing woodlands I have seen so far.👌 . . . . . #rsa_outdoors #theoutdoorpassion #tv_allnature #folkscenery #natureonly #nature #ig_shotz_trees #tree_magic #tree_brilliance #exclusive_trees #tree_captures #divine_forest #loves_united_trees #splendid_woodlands #pocket_trees #rsa_folknature #folkmagazine #croatia #folkgood #theimaged #createcommune #medvedak #tv_landscapes #instagramde #croatiafulloflife #hrvatska #wonderful_places #sonyimages #earthfocus #wanderlust

The starting points for a climb to Medvjeđak are parking lots opposite to two entrances to the Plitvice Lakes National Park on the state road Zagreb – Split. The markings lead to the peak from both Entrance 1 (Rastovača) and Entrance 2 (Hladovina). The path from Entrance 2 is somewhat shorter, more beautiful and easier for orientation. The climb requires one hour and 30 minutes of hiking.

Believe us when we say – the effort is definitely worth the reward!
