According to legend, at the time of the terrible plague in France, four thieves robbed the graves of the unfortunates who died from this terrible disease. In that way, they were exposed not only to the dangers of the law, but also to a much more destructive exposure to the infection. Four plants saved them from the plague, and mercy from the law in exchange for the secret of their survival. Hence the name “Four Thieves“, known as honey to strengthen immunity.
The fifth thief is the leader of the group and was never caught, but legend has it that he was an Arab and that his main weapon against the disease was black cumin. As part of the preparation “Four Thieves”, all plants have bactericidal action, but three plants also have antiviral action.
Thief 1 – Sage cleanses the blood and promotes the secretion of mucus from the respiratory organs, has anti-inflammatory effects and is an excellent aid in the treatment of rheumatism and gout.
Thief 2 – “Lemongrass strengthens the soul and body” claims folk medicine. Paracelsus valued this plant as one of the best and considered it completely restores the body, and a few years ago it was scientifically confirmed that it has antiviral effects. Regulates digestion, heart function, helps with anxiety, fears, and is a good support in the treatment of hypochondria.
Thief 3 – Thyme is a natural antiseptic, stimulates mental and physical functions, and is rich in iron and calcium. Thyme is also a beneficial aid in neurosis, depression, anemia, insomnia.
Thief 4 – Rosemary improves the function of the liver and bile, allows better concentration and memory, has a beneficial effect on blood circulation, reduces nervous tension and helps with physical exhaustion.
Fifth Thief – Black cumin seeds have a very favorable composition of unsaturated fatty acids and biologically active compound thymoquinone and its derivatives, for which scientific studies have confirmed numerous pharmacological effects. It cleanses the airways, prevents the accumulation of mucus, allows better and deeper breathing and increases the activity of the defense system.

Matičnjak sativa d.o.o. is a company that has been operating since 2013. The idea creator of our products is the well-known phytotherapist and apitherapist Ivo Bačlija, who has been dealing with medicinal herbs since 2006.
Most of our offer consists of products that we produce ourselves, we make small batches and our products are primarily characterized by the fact that they are always fresh and high quality.
The main part of our business is wholesale, we work with some retail chains in Croatia, we export to several Western European countries, and in Zagreb we have a counseling center where Ivo Bačlija provides phytotherapy counseling to our customers.

Countless scientific studies have proven to us that nature offers excellent solutions, we just need to know how to use them.
