Hercules is a fantasy film released in July 2014, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in the titular role and directed by Brett Ratner.
The movie was filmed at Origio Studios in Budapest, Hungary, and Croatia stood in for ancient Greece.
A massive set was built as Cotys’ courtyard citadel: the King’s palace, entrance gates, the walls, the surrounding village, and an impressive temple of Hera.
Helicopter aerial photography was shot on Velebit mountain at Croatia to be used as the background mountains. Anića kuk, the colossal and the most monumental rock face, can’t be missed in the movie.
The cast also includes John Hurt, Joseph Fiennes, and Ian McShane. It is based on the indie comic miniseries Hercules: The Thracian Wars, written by Steve Moore, illustrated by Admira Wijaya, and published by Radical Comics.
