„Tastes of the Sea and Mountains“ project presented

PART OF THE "TASTES OF CROATIAN TRADITION" PROJECT

The unique project titled „Tastes of the Sea and Mountains“ was presented this week in the restaurant Maki in Gospić, and the standard bearing the same name was awarded to select hospitality establishments of the Lika-Senj County.

„Tastes of the Sea and Mountains“ is part of the „Tastes of Croatian Tradition“ project which focuses on improving the offer of traditional local specialties in the daily offer of hospitality establishments as well as networking the bearers of the Tastes of Tradition standard for the purpose of joint business, educational, promotional and marketing activities.

Twelve new establishments from the Lika-Senj County have been included in the project in this wave and were given official labels – Bistro Ribič, Hotel Zvonimir, UO Albatros, Restaurant Maki, Bistro Travel, Restaurant Ana, Restaurant Macola, Service Area Zir, Restaurant Ribar, Restaurant No5, Bistro Moby Dick and Restaurant Riva. There are now over one hundred establishments with the Tastes of Croatian Tradition label in Croatia.

„Starting from the understanding that gastronomy is an important part of local identity, an increasingly more significant motivation for travel, but also an important element of how satisfied guests are with the tourist destination, we have decided to engage in this project. The project focuses on developing the local specialties offer, gastronomic visibility, branding, networking, promotion and the systematic development of the tourist offer and new gastronomic tourist products,“ stated Ivan Radošević, director of the Tourist Board of the Lika-Senj County.

The project participants include hospitality establishments in agreement with the defined basic standards and rules, which means that their daily offer needs to include a minimum of two local traditional dishes and six drinks, of which at least four are wines. They are labeled with a standardised plaque bearing a unique symbol and logo in addition to the local area label.

The final goal of the project is to establish continuinity and the sustainability of a high quality offer, to achieve excellence and innovativeness in the use of traditional ingredients, and finally to shape thematic tradition-based restaurants which will permanently offer a variety of typical local dishes, as well as offer guests the opportunity to actively participate in preparing the dishes.
