Hydroelectric power plant Ozalj “Munjara” is the oldest coniferous hydroelectric power plant in Croatia, built and commissioned in 1908 to supply Karlovac lighting.
The power plant was built on a natural waterfall in the center of Ozalj and after more than one hundred years it still produces electricity.
It was built according to plans by the city’s construction engineer Valeri Rieszner, and its historicist architectural appearance, like a Neo-Renaissance castle, owes to the famous Austrian architect Hermann Bollé.
In the years that followed, it has significantly contributed to the development of the Ozalj, Karlovac and Duga Resa industries.
The building is protected as cultural heritage under the supervision of the Directorate for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia.
Organized visits are possible with the monitoring of the power plant experts.
