The family, originally from Lovinac in Lika, donated their spruce to the people of Zagreb for Christmas.

In Zagreb’s Ravnice, right behind Dinamo’s stadium, almost 50 years ago, the Matijević family planted a spruce tree in their yard. Coincidentally, this is a yard where the editorial offices of the baustela.hr, pokojnina.hr and srednja.hr portals are located. Today it is about 17.5 meters high, and every year for Christmas the tree was an attraction in the street with its Christmas lights. But time left its mark on it and the question was whether the tree would survive until next winter.

People from Zrinjevac offered the owners that their old spruce should spend its last Christmas in a special place – in the heart of the Croatian capital, right on Ban Josip Jelačić Square for Zagreb’s Advent. The owners, although with a heavy heart, agreed and the action could start.
